“Gassed”, 1856 Floransa doğumlu Sargent’in en büyük yağlı tablo eseridir. I. Dünya Savaşı’nın son dönemlerini gözlemleme şansı bulan sanatçı, bu eserinde bizzat şahit olduğu savaş sahnelerinden birini yansıtmıştır. Bu tabloda 1918 yılında Batı Cephesi’nde gerçekleştirilen hardal gazı saldırısı sonrası askerler resmedilmiştir. Ayrıca, eserde askerlerin giydikleri kıyafetlerin korunaksızlığı ve gazdan ne kadar etkilendikleri anlatılmıştır.
2018 yılının sonlarına kadar İngiltere’deki İmparatorluk Savaş Müzesi’nde sergilenen tablo, çok farklı kurumlarda da ziyaretçilerin ilgisine sunulmuştur.

This month’s cover photo of the #SecurityPortal is the American painter John Singer Sargent’s 1919 painting, “Gassed”.
“Gassed” is one the largest oil painting by Sargent born in 1856 in Florence. The artist, who had the chance to observe the last periods of World War I, reflected one of the battle scenes he witnessed in this work of art. This painting depicts the soldiers after the mustard gas attack on the Western Front in 1918. In addition, the masterpiece describes the vulnerability of the clothes worn by the soldiers and how much they were affected by the gas.
The painting, which was exhibited at the Imperial War Museum in England until the end of 2018, has been presented to the visitors in many different institutions so far.
